Wolverine fans more Blue than Maize

We got our first dose of Michigan football this weekend under the Rich Rodriguez regime and it was largely as expected. Without the personnel to make the system work, the Wolverines struggled to gain any yards, putting up just 203 total for the game and almost nothing on the ground. While the defense stepped up pretty well in the second half, they were terrible in the first half and gave away far too much to the Utes. It's going to be a long painful progression this season for Michigan with no QB to run the show and a group of young inexperienced players trying to learn the system. But there were at least a couple of positive signs in the defensive performance late in the game and even in the offense's ability to take advantage of a few short fields to at least keep the game interesting. A winning season will be a long shot, but here's hoping that the Maize and Blue can keep their bowl-eligible streak alive while the system starts to fall into place.
